Enlightenment of Principle - The Dao Culture
Among the three areas of enlightenment, the enlightenment of principle is the
most basic and practical. Gaining this lucidity lessens the chances of erring
and being defeated in life. A person with this enlightenment with have no
serious moral fault.
Through this enlightenmet, people become more
civilized. Through history, clear understaning of principle was the surest way
to advance society and culture. For example, at the dawn of civilization,
written language was established and schools were bulit. What is a school?
People need to discover the principles of humanitiy. In both East and West,
schools means the discovery of the principle of civilization. There should be a
continuous process of learning the principle of life underlying nature and
humanity.
Confucius ascertained his own original nature (sung) by
discovering the principles of life for nature and humanity. In Confucius' Great
Learning, he teaches, "Expand knowledge through the study of nature's
manifestationis and principles," and "Immerse in the study of principle to
awaken to the nature (of heaven, earth, and humanity)." The purpose of learning
is to understaning the underlying priciples of things.
When these
principles are deeply understood, we can easily discover the nature of our true
selves. We can say, "Oh, this is who I am. This is a human. This is why we are
born and live" We can realize ourselves only through profound learning.
